Of course it’s more likely that the taggers in question managed to do their tagging while the current was much less of the “swept away” variety. Still, there is something about the bravado necessary to enter spaces that society tells us either explicitly or through implication that we should not. Hundreds of people a day will drive by this very spot and never have any idea that these messages exist, that someone took the effort to make their mark so brazenly. Really that’s all these hieroglyphs are. Marks left by individuals to proclaim, “I was here!”. Isn’t that what each of us does in our own way?
What remains clear is that I still have no affinity for landscapes.
